Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is “the science in which tactics derived from the principles of behavior are applied to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for the improvement in behavior” (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007, p. 690).
ABA has been found to be the most effective, evidence-based treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder as per the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Psychological Association. Through ABA, we are able to teach not only academic skills, but real-life, functional skills that can be used in our learners’ daily lives.
